The Challenge

The Bunbury Geographe regional tourism body had an existing web presence that had grown outdated — both visually and technically. As competition for domestic and international visitors intensified across Western Australia’s South West, the organisation needed a modern, high-quality digital platform capable of showcasing the richness of the region: its coastline, wine trails, national parks, events and touring routes.

The brief called for a complete rebuild — not a patch job. The new site needed to reflect a refreshed brand identity developed by design firm Jack in the Box, integrate a broad range of destination content across multiple sub-regions, and provide visitors with an intuitive, inspiring experience from first click through to trip planning.

The Approach

This project was a close collaboration between three parties: the client RTO, Jack in the Box as the design team, and my role as the WordPress developer responsible for bringing the design to life and integrating all destination content.

1. Design Handover & Technical Planning Received design assets from Jack in the Box and mapped out the full site architecture — page templates, content types, navigation structure and integration requirements — before writing a line of code.

2. Custom WordPress Development Built a pixel-faithful implementation of the approved designs using WordPress, ensuring full responsiveness across mobile, tablet and desktop. Custom post types and flexible content blocks were used to give the client editorial control over their content long-term.

3. Content Integration Migrated and structured a large volume of destination content — covering attractions, itineraries, accommodation, tours, events and sub-regional guides — into the new CMS in a way that was logically organised and easy for the team to maintain.

4. Quality Assurance & Launch Conducted thorough cross-browser and cross-device testing, resolved pre-launch issues, and coordinated a smooth go-live transition from the old site to the new platform.

The Result

The finished site is a confident, professionally crafted destination platform that does justice to the Bunbury Geographe region. The design work from Jack in the Box gave the project a strong visual foundation — bold imagery, clear hierarchy, and a palette rooted in the natural character of the region — and the WordPress build translates that vision faithfully across every device.

Key outcomes of the delivered site include:

  • Comprehensive destination content across multiple sub-regions, attractions, itineraries and tour listings — all structured for easy ongoing management
